The description says it is in English but it’s actually in German. Great book unless you actually want to read it in English.

Basically this is a picture book of timepieces, a celebration of eighteen of the world's top watchmakers and probably the only time I'll ever see these watches close-up. Each chapter starts with a brief illustrated history of the company (in English, German and French) and though interesting they are really written from a company PR perspective. This is followed by pages of superb photos, many of them huge close-ups of the watch face and these work particularly well with the skeleton models where it's possible to appreciate the design craftsmanship by looking through the watch.I thought the large size of so many of these photos reveals some interesting points. The chronometer watches obviously use capital cities around the globe but because there isn't one between the Azores and Rio the incredibly small island of South Georgia is frequently used or the Fernando de Noronha, Jaeger-LeCoultre just use H2O on their Reverso Squadra World Chrono. Two of their other chrono watches have Donnington and Gaydon instead of London (GMT). I noticed that most companies don't seem to be able to get to grips with using clean, elegant type for the numbers, those on the Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot look quite hideous. I believe this book is great for testing your knowledge, however it lends to must frustration when the on-line answer key boasts incorrect answers. I find myself questioning my concrete knowledge. Seriously the price point on these books is more than enough for the publisher to edit correctly and make sure you are providing a product that sets the student up for success. Its bad enough that you make the purchaser go on-line to retrieve the answers (I'm assuming this is to save printing cost and/or increase your profit). But really after 10 editions providing incorrect answers to students should not even be a topic of discussion. I hope the publisher actually reads this and takes it into consideration.

This book is filled with poorly worded questions to which it supplies NO ANSWERS. This is the first time I've ever encountered a workbook that did not supply the correct answer, not to mention some type of explanation or reference to the textbook. This is very unfortunate, since the corresponding textbook is first class; the workbook was a tremendous let down.

When I got the workbook, I was happy because I saw a lot of questions are helpful,but the book doesn't include answers. I think that it shouldn't . Where can I find answers? IF YOU KNOW PLEASE HELP ME.

Beautiful photographs. Beautiful writing. Too-small type. Too small print for even your average person or person with very good vision -- maybe 9.5? I have pretty good vision but definitely need magnifying reading glasses to read this. I suppose the book would have been twice as big and twice as expensive to allow for all the additional paper they'd need to make the print a nice size, but consider this factor before you buy.

This is an amazing book. Not only is it beautiful but it's really informative also. I went to a talk in town by the editor Carl Dellatore and the editor of Elle Decor and heard them discuss the book. I've read about half of the essays so far and I've actually learned a lot about design, the design process and about how some designers think. Some of the essays are straight forward like you would expect such as how to think about developing Floor Plans but others are pretty esoteric dealing with inspiration and they are all interesting. My only complaint is that I wish I were well known enough to have been part of this book. LOL.

This book was a spontaneous grab at the library recently, but I ended up rereading it so many times that I purchased my own copy. The layout was so accessible--really stunning photos accompanied by a page or two of text from a master designer--so it was easy to enjoy a bit at a time. Despite not being myself one of the well-heeled homeowners featured in the book, I still found the layouts and descriptions inspiring, and could use them to guide my efforts in my own more modest home. I think the best part of this book was the instant joy I felt as I turned certain pages...I learned a lot about what I instinctively like and don't like, and it made me happy just reading about the thought and feeling behind the rooms featured. Unlike some other design books I've read which are more explicitly instructional, this is one to linger over and absorb from slowly. Highly recommended!

Totally worth the price —even if you only read the first fifteen pages. Don’t skip a word. The designers offer useful insight into their design processes, far beyond the now overplayed I-love-to-travel-and-look-at-new-places. There is actual detail about the thought process that translates visual experience and research into site history into solutions for current design projects. The writing is excellent. The examples are very useful as illustrations of the principles being addressed, e.g., authenticity, negative space, history, etc. One of the most useful books on design for the non-professional, but very interested, lay person that I have encountered. Special kudos to the superb editor!

Although this book is filled with photos of gorgeous interiors, reading each designer's thought about their design vision transported me into the world of their intimate experience. As an interior design professional, I see myself in each paragraph and it occurs to me that if a client was to read this they would finally understand the complexity of our profession. It beautifully portrays the creative experience in interior design so the world can see it as we do.

For someone wanting to delve further into interior design and decoration this book is a keeper. Whatever your style or period you can apply these philosophies to lift your scheme to that higher level.

Good quality book with a lot of artistic insight of great designers. Read from beginning to end. Some of the designers have really inspired me

The best Convention book in the market IMHO. Misapplication of conventions would most of the time give you a bad board score. With many exercises in the end of each chapter, Ms. Seagram treats each convention carefully and points out the do's and don't. IMHO, it is hazardous to use a convention without knowing the details by reading the quick WEB info or the ACBL short description giving typically only one example.

This book is wonderfully clear. The authors manage to present tough material in a concise way. I bought the first book and this one as well. Very happy. Every thing is broken into small, manageable, snippets, easing the way to learning.
