This book is just amazing. Well-written in a language that kids can understand and engage with. Incredibly inspiring showing real life stories of women - making it more tangible, relatable and real. I never had this when I was growing up. When I showed my kids the book they were really drawn to it and have started to read it. Every mother should buy this for their daughter!
The book “Everyday Superheros†is a must read for kids of all ages! It introduces you to different women in science and gives a brief and compelling description of what each woman does and why it matters. Kids are introduced to career possibilities far beyond the scope of what they may have been exposed to in school – careers like civil and environmental engineering and astronomy are front and center. The featured women scientists are of all different races, ages and ethnicities so that kids can get an idea of the full range of diversity of women in STEM. Additionally, the authors outline the process of science with a focus on communication, collaboration, problem solving and curiosity as necessary components of good science, which is a welcome relief from the narrative that you must be naturally brilliant to be a scientist.As a mother, a woman, a scientist, and leader for the science advocacy group “500 Women Scientists†I highly recommend this book!
I got my copy from the Kickstarter but I have to tell you, the book is very cool. The book inspires! My 3 daughters ages 9,6,4 love looking at the pictures, reading to each other and simply having a resource in their library all about girls in STEM. I highly recommend the book to parents. I especially wish schools would have this in their library.
